OpenClaw Moves to the 2026.9 Line with a Stability-Focused beta.1, While Pi 0.84.4 Adds Experimental DeepSeek V4 Flash Vision

On Aug 28 the two self-hosted core projects shipped same-day: OpenClaw v2026.9.1-beta.1 opens the 2026.9 line with Gateway restart recovery, config-write reliability, Codex runtime 0.150.1 and Node 24 LTS pinning on Linux; Pi v0.84.4 adds terminal capability overrides, RPC clear_queue, extension UI events and experimental DeepSeek V4 Flash Vision. DeepSeek Harness 0.1.2-alpha.2 followed.

Direct answer: On August 28 OpenClaw and Pi shipped same-day again — OpenClaw v2026.9.1-beta.1 opens the 2026.9 line with a reliability-focused beta (Gateway restart recovery, config-write reliability, Node 24 LTS pinning on Linux), while Pi v0.84.4 most notably adds experimental DeepSeek V4 Flash Vision plus terminal capability overrides and RPC queue clearing. DeepSeek Harness 0.1.2-alpha.2 (Aug 30) followed with smaller fixes.

OpenClaw v2026.9.1-beta.1: new line, old debts settled

The version number jumps from 2026.8.x to 2026.9.x (beta channel; production users wait for stable), and every highlight targets stability:

  • Gateway restart recovery: admitted turns are preserved across repeated Gateway restarts, so restart-safe runs continue through each checkpoint and deliver their final response (#130491);
  • Gateway config-write reliability: committed config writes pending through watcher handoff settle against the observed generation instead of failing during source transfer (#131515);
  • Codex managed runtime updated to 0.150.1 across Linux, macOS and Windows;
  • Linux install reliability: the stable Node 24 LTS stream is provisioned and RPM installs are constrained to the configured NodeSource repository, so setup can't pick an incompatible prerelease;
  • Worker recovery: re-arm admission-deadline launches, terminalize dead-worker turns, defer debris cleanup.

In one line: the tail issues of the August line (lost turns on restart, config-write races) are settled at the head of the September line. Upgrades follow the usual path in the local deployment tutorial.

Pi v0.84.4: new toys for integrators

Pi (the kernel-engine route, see our deep dive) ships this one for extension and automation scenarios:

  • DeepSeek V4 Flash Vision (experimental): vision capability enters the model picker;
  • Terminal capability overrides: manually override hyperlink/image/truecolor detection — containers and old terminals no longer misdetect;
  • Extension UI events: ui_prompt_start/end lets integrations distinguish active agent work from waiting on user input;
  • RPC clear_queue: retrieve and clear queued steering/follow-up messages for more controllable orchestration;
  • Fullscreen selection copy: disable auto-copy and use Ctrl+X for the active selection.

DeepSeek Harness 0.1.2-alpha.2 (Aug 30)

The alpha line's second drop in three days: connection failures shown in the UI with auto-retry and manual reconnect, active schedules visible in the conversation header, plugin list grouped by session/global, per-answer token usage and duration, fixes for Node.js 24.0–24.11.1 startup failures and HMR; SessionEvent.ignorable, removed in alpha.1, is restored — an important rollback signal for downstream.

How to read it

OpenClaw opens the September line by paying down stability debt, Pi keeps paving APIs for automation, DSH polishes UX at a daily cadence — all three self-hosted leaders now iterate weekly. Cross-check the comparison hub; the speed of adopting new models (DeepSeek V4 Flash Vision now, the GPT-5.6 family last month) remains a core selling point of the self-hosted route.
