ByteDance Launches Doubao Work as Its Unified Office Agent: TRAE and Coze Folded Into Doubao

The product: one agent to gather ByteDance's AI office stack

Per the official introduction (relayed by ChooseAI and others), Doubao Work autonomously decomposes goals, invokes tools and drives complex workflows, with two capability families:

  • Content generation & editing: proposals, meeting minutes, reports, research summaries, spreadsheets and data analysis; advanced scenarios extend to generating and editing images, videos, web pages and even apps — with box-select partial editing instead of full regeneration.
  • Computer operation: cross-software task execution, persistent cloud-computer runs that survive shutdown, and remote control from the phone.

Deep Feishu integration is the differentiator versus generic assistants: logging in with a Feishu account lets the agent inherit chats, docs and meeting notes within the user's permission scope, with full-chain security and personal/enterprise data isolation. Early adopters get a free 30-day subscription benefit; full pricing has not been disclosed as of publication.

The launch caps a dense week: remote computer control from phones (Aug 17), Windows virtual desktop (Aug 18), local + cloud dual mode (Aug 19), and 200+ skills/connectors with "work partners & squads" (Aug 21).

The consolidation: TRAE and Coze folded in, organization before product

On August 24, per 36Kr's Intelligent Emergence (picked up by NetEase, HKET, AIbase and Pandaily), the TRAE and Coze teams merged fully into the Doubao system. TRAE Work and Coze's work-scenario capabilities integrate with Doubao; TRAE IDE and CLI continue as ByteDance's coding line under the Doubao brand, with teams reporting to Doubao product head Zhao Qi. ByteDance officially responded that existing user rights are unaffected.

This follows the July 30 reorg that merged the Feishu product team into Doubao. Within a month: organization first, brand second, product consolidation third — Feishu steps back to the data layer, Doubao steps forward.

The landscape: five majors become four, plus one pole

With Alibaba's Qianwen Office consolidation and Tencent folding QClaw into WorkBuddy in July, the managed camp is converging and the "digital worker" entry war enters the finals; local-data and 24/7 automation needs still weigh against the self-hosted OpenClaw route.
